The 14th annual BET Awards were hosted by BET Network in Los Angeles on June 28th. We tracked the Twitter conversation around the event to see who tuned in.

Key Findings:

Demographics:

Over 250K users tweeted about the show last night, of which 56% were women, 44% were men. Fifty four percent were under the age of 18, 23% were between 18–24. The top city tweeting about the event was New York followed by Atlanta and Chicago.

Affinities:

The top interests of this audience includes Celebrity Gossip and Hip Hop, however they are 10x more likely to be interested in Jazz and 9x more likely to be interested in Blues compared to the average Twitter audience. Top social networks of this audience include Instagram, Vine, and YouTube. Favorite brands include NBA, MTV, and TMZ. They are 10.4x more likely to be interested in Def Jam Records compared to the average. Drake, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Chris Brown are the favorite artists of these tweeters and they are 25.8x more likely to like record producer, August Alsina, compared to the Twitter average.
