Box Office Hits: The Boy Next Door, Mortdecai, Strange Magic

Friday, January 23rd, three movies debut in theaters around the country, The Boy Next Door, Mortdecai, and Strange Magic. The target audience differs for each movie so we analyzed who was talking about each on opening weekend.

The Boy Next Door

The Boy Next Door was the most tweeted movie out of the three. Seventy six percent of the people tweeting about #TheBoyNextDoor are women, 26.6% of the audience are between the ages of 18 and 24. This audience is 12.5x more likely to be interested in AMC Theaters than the average Twitter audience. Jennifer Lopez is the favorite celebrity of this audience (29% like JLO) and they are 24x more likely to like Ryan Guzman than the average Twitter audience.

Mortdecai

#Mortdecai was the second most tweeted about movie of the weekend. Fifty two percent of users tweeting about the movie are women and 45% of the audience are between the ages of 18 and 24. Humor ranks 3rd for top interests of this audience while Sci-Fi & Fantasy is 2nd with 63% of the audience interested. This audience is interested in keeping up with movie news, Paramount Pictures, IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and 20th Century Fox fall into the top 15 brands.

Strange Magic

Seventy three percent of users that tweeted about #StrangeMagic are women, 34% of the audience is between 35–44. Their top interests include Traveling with Kids and Theme Parks, and are 33x more likely to be interested in Desserts & Baking than the average Twitter audience. This audience’s favorite brands include Disney, P&G, Little Debbie, and Purex while their favorite TV shows include The Walking Dead and Once Upon a Time.
