Monday, April 5th was Opening Day for the MLB and since sports and social media go hand in hand, Twitter was buzzing with excitement over watching their team play, with almost every team who played trending on Twitter at one point during the day.

We tracked the conversation around OpeningDay on Twitter to see who was talking about it and what they like.

Over 200K users tweeted about Opening Day reaching over 75 million users on Twitter. Seventy seven percent of tweeter are men and 39% of tweeters are between the ages of 18–24.

The top cities contributing to the conversation were 1. New York 2. Los Angeles 3. Washington DC 4. Boston 5. Cincinnati

The top states were 1. California 2. Texas 3. New York 4. Ohio 5. Florida

Not surprisingly, Baseball is the #1 interest followed by Football and Country Music. This audience is 5.6x more likely to be interested in Pro Ice Hockey and 3.46x more likely to be interested in Soccer.

The top 3 brands for this audience are MLB, ESPN, and MLB Network. The influencers this audience is most likely to like are Jose Bautista, Mike Trout, and Bryce Harper.
