#SXSW-Breaking down the tweeters of the biggest event in the south

South by Southwest kicked off in Austin yesterday. One of the biggest events of the year, SXSW combines technology and entertainment for an event referred to as a spring break for adults.

We tracked the conversation thats taking over twitter to see who is talking about the event and what they like.

Conference Recap:

Though many travel to attend SXSW, people from Austin made a splash on social during the event. The number 1 city represented was Austin and many Texas brands showed up in the favorite brands of these tweeters like Dallas Museum of Art and the Austin Statesman. The event has branched out to incorporate the fashion and entertainment industry as well but business influencers still turned out to be attendee favorites as did business shows (Shark Tank) and business interest (advertising, marketing).

  • This audience is 1.5x more likely to be interested in Rodeos than the average Twitter audience
  • They are 2.12x more likely to be interested in screenwriting than average
  • Pixar is their favorite media studio
  • Def Jam Records is their favorite entertainment label
  • The Indianapolis Colts is the favorite pro team of this audience
  • This audience is 5.5x more likely to like Mark Suster than average

Monday Recap:

  • This audience is 1.78x more likely to be interested in Investing & Patents than the average Twitter audience
  • They are 5.37x more likely to like Adweek than the average Twitter audience
  • They are 3x more likely to like HollyWood Reporter than average
  • Favorite celebrities include Barack Obama, Conan O’Brien, and Stephen Colbert

Sunday Recap:

  • 33% are between the ages of 25–34
  • 33% are interested in Video Games
  • Favorite food & beverage brand is Red Bull
  • 3.8x more likely to like Variety than the Twitter average
